In what some are calling the closest thing to an American royal affair (since the Kennedy days, of course), Chelsea Clinton married her longtime boyfriend Marc Mezvinsky in Rhinebeck, NY, in a star-studded ceremony.

Chelsea Clinton wore a white Vera Wang wedding dress (as we knew she would!) to exchange her vows in an interfaith ceremony before a reported 400-500 guests, including Wang herself, Ted Danson, and, supposedly, Oprah Winfrey and Barbara Streisand.

The strapless Vera Wang dress had a diagonally draped bodice, ballgown skirt made out of raw edged laser-cut silk organza and a train in silk tulle.

Clinton’s tiny waist was cinched with a crystal-encrusted belt, while her hair was pulled back and accented by a long traditional tulle veil. She complemented her gorgeous gown with a simple bouquet of white hydrangeas.

The bride’s parents, former President Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, issued the following statement to The New York Times:

“Today, we watched with great pride and overwhelming emotion as Chelsea and Marc wed in a beautiful ceremony at Astor Courts, surrounded by family and their close friends.

“We could not have asked for a more perfect day to celebrate the beginning of their life together, and we are so happy to welcome Marc into our family. On behalf of the newlyweds, we want to give special thanks to the people of Rhinebeck for welcoming us and to everyone for their well-wishes on this special day.”

The 30-year-old bride and 32-year-old groom — an investment banker whose parents served in Congress — had both their ceremony and reception at the glitzy Astor Courts, a Beaux Arts-style estate built from 1902-1904 for John Jacob Astor IV, one of the most famous early American millionaires.

To suit the dressy event, female guests were seen wearing formal floor-length gowns, including the bride’s mother who looked prettier than we’ve ever seen her in an elegant raspberry-hued dress by Oscar de la Renta with puffy shoulders and a tied waist. Mr. Clinton wore a slim black suit and matching narrow tie.

Fashion has a constant case of nostalgia, and the newest-old-thing is the Baja.

This surfer staple (hello, Jeff Spiccoli!) is fast becoming the ne plus ultra of the too-cool-to-look-like-I-care crowd.

Throw one on over a gown (a la Celine resort) for the “Shaman Hippie Hollwood” look, as Phoebe Philo called it. Or, pair one with sporty printed short-shorts for an urban day vibe (thank you, Proenza, also Resort).

Fortunately, one need not go to Bergdorf’s to shop for this beach wear staple (or wait until November). Cool young Brooklyn-based designers Ace & Jig developed their own line of Baja fabric in India, and offer the classic hoodie, and dresses too.

For the legit iteration, which never went away just underground, Señor Lopez’s from Mexico is the place to go. This retro number was recently spotted on the fashion-mad site Polyvore.

Designer-denim fiends should head over to Net-A-Porter, where the first shipment of Victoria Beckham Denim just hit the e-retailer’s virtual shelves.

For fall, the world’s most famous soccer mom is continuing the themes from her Spring 2010 collection of clean lines, sexy panels, and zipper detailing.

The first two super-skinny styles available on the site include a $315 mid-rise light blue pair with angular gray cord panels on the lower leg, and a $450 low-rise black pair with gold zippers cutting across the hips, thighs, and ankles.

We also got a glimpse of two other soon-to-be-released pairs we think are even better than the first shipment. One is a black waxed denim motorcycle pant with rumpled knees, zip-up hems, and paneling. Another is a narrow, bleached-out pair that is practically white and spotted with man-made rips on the thighs and knees.

As more pieces roll out, expect to see luxe embellishments like antique mirrors, beaten metal, and Lurex and lace inserts combined with the denim, in addition to dip-dyed hems and ruching.

Beckham is also expanding her jersey capsule collection to include cropped wool cardigans and vests and leather pieces such as the iconic bomber, as well as second-skin Napa leather leggings, all made in Italy.

While the internet was abuzz with news that model-of-the-moment Lara Stone had teamed up with French Playboy for a series of racy photos, one person wasn’t so thrilled about the partnership: Stone herself.

The 26-year-old Dutch-born model, who has become famous for her relatively busty, non-waifish figure and gap-toothed smile, announced that she is suing the magazine, stating that the photos used in the spread are unauthorized, reports Telegraph UK.

”Playboy had no right to publish these unauthorized photographs,” says Stone. “It’s not the kind of publication I would ever choose to appear in. I feel I have no option but to take steps to protect my reputation.”

Schillings, the London-based law firm specializing in “protecting the reputations of high-profile individuals,” was hired by Stone to go up against French Playboy and the photographer behind the images, Greg Lotus, who has worked with magazines as well as fashion and beauty brands including Italian Vogue, 10, W, Escada, Levi’s, L’Oreal, and Van Cleef & Arpels

Of course, any fan of the supermodel knows that it’s not really the nudity that’s bothering Stone — she’s gone totally nude for W, Purple, and Love magazines — but the principal of the matter.

The photos that French Playboy is publishing appear to be from a photo shoot Lotus and Stone did late last year for a different project.

In the raciest of the images, Stone is shown completely naked — expect for heels — sitting in a chair with her legs crossed, completely nude standing up in an open silk robe, and in two others she bares her breasts.

Seriously, now our tulle-filled heads are just spinning.

It’s been the question among fashion insiders for months: Will bride-to-be Chelsea Clinton wear Vera Wang or Oscar de la Renta when she walks down the aisle to marry investment-banker fiancé Marc Mezvinsky on July 31 in Rhinebeck, N.Y.?

A friend told StyleList back in June that Clinton had a made-to-measure wedding dress in Vera Wang’s workshop, confirming what we had speculated all along — Chelsea was opting for the epitome of classic American bridal.

That was until Sheryl Gay Stolberg, The New York TImes White House correspondent, told Ann Curry on the “Today Show” that the former first daughter had chosen an Oscar de la Renta gown. So, maybe we spoke too soon.

Well, not so fast. The plot thickens.

WWD’s Wednesday (July 28) cover features Chelsea Clinton, obscured by a large floppy hat (so much for going incognito!), arriving at Vera Wang’s midtown showroom in New York City on July 27 to meet her Secretary of State mom, Hillary Rodham Clinton, who was already there.

Reportedly, Wang is doing the bridesmaids’ dresses, the flower girls’ dresses, as well as the all-important wedding dress. And supposedly Hillary and Chelsea have met with Wang five to 10 times over the last four months. OK. Settled. Score one for StyleList.

Or, maybe not. Hillary was also spotted dropping by Oscar de la Renta’s Manhattan showroom later the same day. There are conflicting reports as to whether Chelsea accompanied her mom, but the duo has allegedly met with de la Renta numerous times of late.

And, after all, the designer has previously dressed the former first lady, starting during her days in the White House.

The Clintons, in addition to Vera Wang and Oscar de la Renta spokespeople, declined comment to WWD.

So, will Chelsea Clinton wear both designers during her weekend wedding? Will just Hillary be wearing de la Renta? Or is this all a plan to throw us off completely? Only time and continued bridal back-and-forth will tell. Try to keep up. Trust us, it’s not easy.

We wonder how many geeks were at a total loss for words at the mere sight of Blake Lively, let alone her superheroes. Photo: Frazer Harrison, Getty Images

Anyone who keeps abreast of Blake Lively’s red carpet style knows the “Gossip Girl” star isn’t shy about showing off her relatively ample bosom. (See exhibits A, B, C and D.)

However, the 22-year-old actress took things to a new “low,” showing up at the notoriously geeky Comic-Con convention in San Diego to promote her upcoming film “Green Lantern” wearing a top that barely covered her, um, lanterns.

Lively and her “Green Lantern” co-stars Ryan Reynolds, Peter Sarsgaard, and Mark Strong sat down for a panel discussion and we’re pretty sure the audience was having a hard time concentrating on what was coming out of Lively’s mouth, being that her bust was spilling out of a white futuristic top that plunged down almost below her breasts then widened so that a nip-slip was almost inevitable.

And the the chest-level table the stars were sitting at didn’t help the situation.

In any case, Lively kept the rest of the look tame, pairing her revealing northern hemisphere with black silky high-waisted pants (cinched with a black belt), black-and-white heels and, sticking with the “Green Lantern” theme, emerald drop earrings.

We commend her for avoiding this blotchy chest situation from last year’s Angel Ball.

In related style news, Reynolds’s wife and “Iron Man 2” stunner Scarlett Johansson has been playing down her famed cleavage for offscreen appearances and for her new Mango ads.
